FISTICUFF (Andrew Bergey) © 2021 Viable Tangents Music Fisticuff Why on earth should we fisticuff I can take care of myself I know every pressure point Instead of breaking it up I should have wrecked this joint Around and around we’ll go Someone will call the cops I’m likely to dispatch myself Confrontation never stops To prove you’re tough Why on earth do we fisticuff It almost came to blows You didn’t have a clue Next time you represent We’ll meet on Pay-Per-View You want to wave a gun And a flag in my face What you just unfurled Will land you in space Fisticuff Why on earth should we fisticuff Alley cats not on the fence All my scratch here on display When you meet my upper cut You’ll need a tight tourniquet You say you won the first round Make it best two-out-of-three Street justice doesn’t have rules We’re in the land of the free To prove you’re tough Why on earth do we fisticuff You should pick your battles And then maybe show up Or send a surrogate While I warm up You’re calling this a war So is getting a vote If you’re calling a truce Then you can leave a note

Let Me Talk 03:01
LET ME TALK (Andrew Bergey) © 2021 Viable Tangents Music Let me talk to you baby Once more before you go Let me talk to you baby About what I’m sure you know How you treat me so bad Everyone has told me so Couldn’t see for myself I’d be the last to know Let me talk to you baby Some things I need to say Let me talk to you baby When my head is on replay If I came on too strong Said something out of turn You should have clued me in So how was I to learn Let me sing to you baby Tonight, before you sleep Let me sing to you baby Want more than your soul to keep You say I made demands Took too much of your time You needed a little space To be no friend of mine The streets won’t be wet with my tears Someone’s waiting to take your place Won’t beat myself up any more By summer I’ll forget your face Let me walk with you baby Once more before I die Let me walk with you baby You know the reason why

Wonder Still 03:34
WONDER STILL (Andrew Bergey) © 2021 Viable Tangents Music How many times did you say that? How many times did you stick to the same point? How many times did you say that? How many times did you put a nose out of joint? I respect that you think I need reminding Like saying it somehow makes it binding I respect your right to voice an opinion But respect my right to change your position How many times did you say it? How many times did those words never work out? How many times did you say it? How many times did you feel like you had to shout? I respect your right to state your convictions But respect my right to suggest restrictions Sometimes your attempt at communication Should come with a video explanation I got no reason on the earth to be sad I got no reason on the earth to be mad I got no reason on the earth for a frown I got no reason on the earth to be down (Yet I wonder still) How many times have we stood and watched the sky? How many times have you stood and not asked why? "What's up there that's so great can't we just let it wait?" How many times have I sat and watched you cry? (And I wonder still) How many times have we stood out in the rain? How many times have you stood and not complain? ‘Bout getting soaking wet and getting more upset? How many times have I caused you pain? I got no reason on the earth to be here I got no reason on the earth to be near I got no reason on the earth for a lie I got no reason on the earth to be that guy How many times did you say that? How many times did you stick to the same point? How many times did you say that? How many times did you put a nose out of joint? I respect that you think I need reminding Like saying it somehow makes it binding I respect your right to voice an opinion But respect my right to change your position

I have a witness You have a tell You had me up Against the felt We have a winner And It’s not me It’s someone else Rigged lottery I couldn’t catch a break . . . Fatal Shore 03:46
THE FATAL SHORE (Kevin Dennis) © 1989 Sounds Like Music I was lost Fell overboard Into an ocean racked by storms Struggled hard Swam for days Didn't think I'd find my way No rescue boats Were sent for me Into a sea of apathy I fought off sharks And killer whales I had to live to tell my tale After I Washed upon The fatal shore I stood up Brushed myself off And started to explore At first, I thought I was alone But then I found a trail of bones I took a path Through deserts great Hard fields of rock and clay Then at the end Of seven days I saw a teardrop in the waves I had reached The mecca of Broken dreams It was the city of the unfulfilled Populated by hope that had been killed By endless days of drudgery Trapped in lives they didn't want to lead No one seemed To notice me So I stopped the fantasy What is the name This wilderness He said the isle of voiceless men Everyone here Has failed a test Of living life to its best They gave up Settled for less And put the blame on something else He pointed up To the clouded sky And predicted rain It was the city of the unfulfilled Populated by hope that had been killed By endless days of drudgery Trapped in lives they didn't want to lead I was scared I could see A citizen that I could be So I turned And ran away Through the desert's sandy clay I found myself At the fatal shore I built a boat of nothing more Went to the sea Of apathy The isle had made me see

We Live 03:06
WE LIVE (Andrew Bergey) © 2013 & 2021 Viable Tangents Music We live In that house The one you're making fun of So, don't Be surprised If you find it full of love We ride In that car The one you won't be seen in We park It safely In a garage that's leaning It's the most Damnable thing That leads to no argument To be poor Yet win the crown Life's richest tournament She goes To a school The one your kid won't attend But we'd Do the same This I can’t defend It's the most Damnable thing That leads to no argument To be poor Yet win the crown Life's richest tournament You're too honest For honesty Honestly We live In that house The one you're making fun of So, don't Be surprised If you find it full of love It’s the fence That need’s repairing Pretend there is a gate Walk on through Best seat in the house We’ve got an extra plate

about

After way too many thematic albums, I decided to go back to my I Can Take A Hint/You Should Have Been There rocking roots. Influenced by Tom Petty, Aerosmith and Foreigner (don’t try to find the similarities; they ain’t there), I explore darker themes about broken relationships, violence in unsuspected places, dependency, and confronting toxic interior dialogues. I know, not the usual cheery Andy fare but health and work issues almost got the better of me and I found myself fighting back in song. 62 years young and still cranking out the near hits. My game is good!

about

Andrew Bergey Denver, Colorado

After fronting the Oklahoma alt-rockers Rank Amateurs, Andrew Bergey moved to Colorado and started releasing solo albums in 2011. His clever, quirky, and surreal songs have forged “standard” rock albums, a bubblegum album, a children’s album, a premature anthology, and a cover album of his own songs! Why not? Andrew’s albums are always unexpected, experimental, and ear-wormingly entertaining! ... more
